Okinawa creepy critters

Here's something Thomas would not like about Okinawa: creepy crawlies. >:)
There are all sorts of small animals, spiders and bugs in Japan, like these small lizards.

It's about 12cm in length, and has a beautiful brown and blue scaled skin. They're a bit shy, but love to sit in the sun, and abundantly available to be able to get a nice picture of them.

Another critter we encountered on Okinawa is this beastie:

I don't know what kind of spider this is, other than that it's a big sucker (about 15cm or so, legs included), that this particular specimen lost a leg at some point and that it's not very aggressive towards things that are larger than he is. We found it right next to the path we walked on towards the waterfalls on Iriomote.
We also spotted it on Okinawa itself several times.

Obviously, Japan's wildlife includes a host of other bugs, but these were kind of special to us this summer. :)

Cheers, K.

Spiders... Yuck.

I really don't mind salamanders and such and might even be OK with a docile snake. But insects just creep me the fsck out.

For me, it kind of depends on the insect.
I don't mind the odd butterfly, ladybug or spider (well, as long as they don't start to go after me), but I just loathe anything that tries or might want to try to sting me.
