Patch job

I spent today on just one thing, apart from getting some groceries; attacking and sorting out this mess (and yes, I already disconnected the switches before I remembered to get my camera and capture it for posterity):

It took about 15 hours to untangle this Gordian knot, while keeping in mind to not touch the grey wires (those aren't ours but from another company sharing this patch field with us), and basically rewiring the lot into this:

The patch field is one of many throughout the building, and lives in a small separate room in the wing it's serving.
The orange wires are actually fibrelinks, connecting the switches with the core switch in the server room next to our office. Pretty neat stuff, but a certified nightmare if you have to untangle 10 years of patch connections.

Let's just say I've had my share for now, and that I won't cook spaghetti or noodles for a month or two. ;)

Cheers, K.
