Today I spent some money on a small computer in order to check out Windows 7. I didn't want to modify my current box, so I got a nice cheap 64-bit capable mobo-proc-mem set for a few tenners above €200, since I already had a harddisk, case, PSU and stuff sitting around.

My first impressions are good. Both installations (I downloaded the English and the Japanese iso, just for kicks) were up and running in 35 minutes, the config was able to run the Aero-desktop without a hitch, despite the modest graphics chip on the cheap MSI motherboard I bought and things look favourable.

The new interface takes some getting used to (I never really tried Vista; as soon as that shitty OS asked me for the third time if I'm undoubtedly, absolutely, reallyreallyREALLY sure whether I want to move my keyboard in a more sensible position, I upgraded that box to XP), but once you know where everything lives, you'll be able to navigate your way through it in no-time.

That's it for now; I'm turning this box into a media-PC (the try-out is the Ultimate version, so it comes with Media Center) and try to write some more sensible comments in the future.

Cheers, K.
