There must be something in the air; I'm having some bad luck on hardware this past week.
Fortunately all work-related and all with new hardware, but still...

It started with an APC Automatic Transfer Switch; ordered one on Tuesday 16:30 and was pleasantly surprised when it turned up at our doorstep the very next morning. Kudos to our supplier, who arranged for the shipment to go out within 30 minutes after my call.
I plugged it in through socket B; nothing. Socket A did do something, but without socket B, the whole idea of the ATS is rather useless.
An ATS provides redundant power to single-PSU hardware, such as network switches. For €500, it's a great piece of kit, if it works.
Kudos to APC however; I called them and got a new one the next morning, fortunately working correctly.

Another jam happened with a brand new €4000-ish HP DL380 G5 ProLiant server; one of its power supplies made fizzy noises.
Now, the only thing that's allowed to make fizzy noises is a glass of beer or a can of Kopparberg Pear Cider, so I called for a replacement.

The replacement came in today, but when I put it in just now (didn't have time during the afternoon), it turned out to be as dead as a doornail; not even a blinky light, except for the blinky light at the front of the box, telling me that there's something wrong with PSU 2.
One begins to wonder whether HP tests their gear properly before boxing it, eh?

Oh well; come Monday, I'll just have to ring my supplier -again- to get a replacement for the replacement. ;)

Let's hope next week will be better; I'd hate to be sitting in an aeroplane with faulty wiring or something. Then again, I'm flying with JAL; who happen to have one of the best track records when it comes to maintenance, so it should be OK. Right?

Cheers, K.
