It occurred to me a while ago that I tend to look under my glasses (as opposed to looking through them) when reading some really fine print, like on the really small chip below, so I was wondering whether I would need a new prescription.

Thinking back, my current prescription dates back almost seven years, so I would not be surprised if I would have to get myself some new obligatory eye wear.
The surprise was on me however; I finally got around to visit an optician yesterday. After hearing my story, she told me a few things.

First off, she told me that this happens to every person who is near-sighted. Second, she said that this could be fixed by switching to multi-focal glasses, but also stated that I am about ten years too young to go multi-focal and that the probability of this problem being fixed by multi-focal is so low, the new glasses would be more of a hindrance than a solution due to the properties of a multi-focal lens.

After measuring my eyes with a professional piece of kit, her assumptions were fortified by the fact that in those seven years, only one of my eyes changed; and only by a tiny bit (0.25 difference) to boot.
So I decided that a new prescription is only needed if I want a change of pace or look more fashionable, but at this moment, I'm quite happy with my current frame. :)

I just have to live with the fact that I need to lift my glasses a bit when I'm working with tiny parts like in the picture above.

Cheers, K.
