Since I have a PS3 in the house, owning a few Blu-Ray discs en have been testing a few HD-enabled
NMT-based media players recently, I'm also looking into HD movies in general. Looking out what's worthwhile and what's not, what I should avoid and what not.
On this little quest, I found a lot of stuff not really worthwile if you ask me.
What's the added value of owning films like Mrs. Doubtfire, Big Fish, Hitch, Phone Booth, Money Train and Disaster Movie on HD?
What can we possibly miss while watching those from DVD instead of BRD?
Ofcourse, I hear you say; it's the money. The film companies want to get something out of it, so they re-release those old hits (har har) once again to cash in on those who are stupid enough.
Now, I must say, HD content can be REALLY beautiful, and I've reached a point where I try and get a Blu-Ray version of something instead of the DVD if available, but it's not that I'm going all-out HD just yet. But I can't help but wonder why someone would buy an HD-copy of Daddy Day Care, as I feel that HD only adds something if the graphics are just as important to the story as the dialogue.
Besides, just about every film utilising poorly implemented special effects will sink like the proverbial stone once you watch it in HD.
So, what do you think?
Cheers, K.
