Come Friday, my Mum's flying to Costa Rica with her boyfriend for a holiday, and this has me kind of worried. Now don't get me wrong; I am happy for her that she's finally living one of the dreams she has, and I hope she will have a wonderful time there, but it's with a small kernel of dread that I see her go to Latin America.
From what I hear, it's not really a very safe continent and all sorts of things and diseases can happen to you.
I do realise that she will be making this trip with other people (she booked a package deal, meaning that hotels and stuff are taken care of), that she has her boyfriend with her and that she's very capable of taking care of herself, but I can't help to worry just a little bit.
Have a safe journey, Mum.
Cheers, K.

Don't worry too much Kaijuu. From what friends told me, Costa Rica isn't that unsafe people-wise. Their pictures just scared the hell out of me for all the reptiles and insects over there. You may remember the post I made after seeing their pics :)

True, but they are also going to visit two other countries, and I don't know how unsafe those are.

Ah, well... I'm sure that you can check some website maintained by the dutch ministry of foreign affairs. I recall -someone- giving off either positive or negative travel advise for other countries, so I'm sure they must have a nice site as well.
Ah... Found it...

Well, that makes Costa Rica sound pretty bad, but I'm sure it's not much worse than South Africa. How will they be traveling? As a couple or with a tour group? *reads back* Ah, sounds like a travel group. That part makes it sound a lot safer to me already.
