Kids growing up in this day and age

Since the premise of having kids is getting rather close to home with Thomas & Marlijne's future offspring, I sometimes find myself pondering about what kind of stuff she'll play with while growing up, since especially in the eyes of some old folk, "we" apparently aren't fully grown up yet.

Obviously, we are grown up; we are adults, we have jobs, houses and a social life which goes beyond competing who has the shiniest marbles, jewellery, Barbie doll or toy car and all that, but at the same time, we appear to cling a little to our childhood with stuff from said childhood, like video games.
Now, I fully realise that playing video games is generally accepted, at least 20 people at my workplace at various ages have an up-to-date gaming console at their home.
Still I can't help feeling a little embarrassed walking into Toys"r"Us or Intertoys, having to go through the isles carrying an abundance of girl stuff before getting to the games section, for instance.

I wonder what it'll be like in 10~13 years time, when kids born these days are getting into puberty and turning against everything their parents love to do.
Like playing video games.

Well, you'll never know until you're there, I guess. Maybe we'll all be playing the PS6, the XBOX 3600, Nintendo's latest developments in SuperHD or perhaps a whole new player, or maybe nothing at all.

What the hell, we'll see.
But it's nice to ponder sometimes, and keeping things in perspective.

Cheers, K.
