Well, a few days after installing and using Ubuntu, I can't say I'm thrilled just yet. Coming from a Windows environment like most switchers, there are many little differences and knick-knacks. I tried to play a DVD by using VLC, for instance.
Great little program, plays just about anything you throw at it and it can't be bothered with all those things companies fire at us in order to deny us their content through means of regions, CSS- and whatnot.

I'm used to just dragging a VOB-file onto VLC and enjoy whatever's on there, but apparently, things work differently under Linux.

Same goes for writing a story in OpenOffice; the keyboard is all off. Off, in terms of that it has "dead" keys to type special accents more easily (like I set it to be), but at the same time is unable to give me a -'t- without me first hitting the accent, then the spacebar, and finally the T.

These kinds of kinks are kinks which undoubtebly can be fixed with relative ease, but it's uncomfortable.

However, I won't quit just yet, because the Gnome desktop has some lovely features and works like a charm.

I guess I'll need to find my way first, just as I had to do when I looked at a Japanese version of WIndows Mobile, being the PalmOS-addict that I am. :)

It's not over yet.

Cheers, K.
