The subtle differences between Holland and Japan -part 1

You know, since the car broke down, I've been commuting to work by train (more on the subtle differences between Dutch and Japanese trains later). Train stations are just about the only place in this country which bless us with vending machines.
Like these (shot a while ago at some train station here in NL):

Not much of a blessing, is there?
These are not vending machines, these are fortresses.

Japan has a different approach (and 26 million of those machines):

Now, be honest; where would you rather spend some money for a drink or a snack?

Thought so.

Cheers, K.

Heheh.. I suspect a case of post-Japan-vacation-syndrome here.. ;)

Dutch vending machines on train stations have to able to withstand an army of hooligans I suppose. I wouldn't mind a vending machine with cold coffee cans here though.

On the plus side you don't have to put up with just sweet white bread here or confectionery filled with red bean paste.

While that may be true, I still would like some taiyaki. :9
