Well, I got a new one: a
Pioneer DV-490V. But, it seems I was a little too hastily accepting the recommendation; I can't seem to find an S-video output on the damn thing. (that's what you get when you're a little pressed for time, and I didn't want to rip the box open in a packed store)
And yes, I did state S-video as a desired feature, and the salesdroid even asked me if I needed a professional S-video cable to hook the new player up.
Perhaps the SCART harbours the desired signals; I do hope so, or else the salesdroid who recommended me this one, is going to have a problem.
Tomorrow is Christmas at my aunt 'n uncle's place, although there might be a change in plans.
We'll see; if the whole thing goes pearshaped, there's always Chinese take-out.
