British kids can't seem to find their own country

According to National Geographic Kids, 20 percent of the UK's children in the age from six to fourteen is unable to point out their home country on a world map. Here's a link to the BBC news article.

This reminds me of a Dutch TV-show some fifteen to twenty years ago, where they pull up a world map on a well-known tourist spot or camp site somewhere in Europe, gather a bunch of Dutch holiday goers and ask them to identify The Netherlands and/or the country they were visiting.

Nearly everyone on the show got it wrong.

Of course, some editing was done to show only those who got it wrong, but it embarrassed the hell out of me at the time. :)
Now, I'm not claiming my topographic skills are up to par, but this takes the cake. At least I'm able to find most countries in Europe. ;)

Cheers, K.

Vakantie man, gezellig heh?!

:D

I _loved_ the part where the folks sitting at the Spanish sea-side pointed out fscking Austria when asked where they were. HELLOOO! A, how did you even _get_ there? By bus? B, see any shoreline for Austria?!

Yeah, but still it was highly manipulative. They only showed the goofs and near the end of the item someone who got it right. Entertaining, but since they cut out nearly everyone who pointed to the correct location on the map, it didn't tell you anything about the average geographic knowledge.

Of course you guys're right when it comes to the editing part. It's just that there shouldn't have been enough people to even _make_ the blooper reel.
