Hacking a VGA-connection in a DVD-player -epilogue

I also have an Acer WT300 thin client lying around, doing nothing, so I decided to put that in the same setup as the DVD-player and thus having an internet terminal in my bedroom as well; the only problem I was now facing was an extra switch and two 1.8m VGA-cables to switch between DVD and TC.

Not a very pretty sight, so I concocted a little 2-way, 5-signal switch, using a couple of 4066 (four bilateral switches in a CMOS DIL-14 package) for the switching, and a 4093 quad NAND-gate to control one or the other set of switches, triggered by an opto-coupler hooked to the signal meant to set pin 8 on the SCART-connector to a certain level (usually used to trigger the TV it's hooked up to, or to let it know that a certain type of signal is connected to it), to determine whether the DVD or the TC should be switched.
Saves a bunch of cable and another box.

But alas, it didn't work out as planned; the 4066's either have more difficulty handling the VGA-signals than expected, or aren't being triggered properly. I didn't have a logic probe at hand, so I decided to let it rest for now and have another look at it another time.
I have some other projects that deserve my attention too. ;)

Cheers, K.

Holy shite, way to up the nerditude of this blog :D

Bad thing is: I studied for this stuff years ago and unfortunately part of what your saying isn't making any sense. ONOZ! I'm unlearning stuff!

Sounds like a nifty project though :)
