Yah yah… I know I havent post in a loong time..  just havent felt like putting the effort in.

I have taken next week off to help my mom move, but I should have some time to maybe post something interesting.

Most of my time is taken up with World of Wacraft as usual, and being a guild officer takes up any time I had left outside of the game.

I have been so involved in the guild that I went and bought the Invision powerboard forum software when we where asked to leave Extremt.

Recently I have also purchased a Teamspeak server which can be found here (you need to have TS installed) .. or you can check the status of it here.

I got that from from Darkstar Communications and its a really nice company. You can hang out with the engineers in IRC, and they have very fast response to issues.

In other news, I recently went to the dutch national finals of the World Cyber Games, cause Ivan (Genemirx) was in the semi-finals for Need for Speed. He didnt get through to the finals though. Here are some pics:

I got mine at Darkstar Communications, and I was immediately enthralled with their openess and fast service response, even though they have been having some trouble on their London farm the last few weeks.

This post discusses the Standard IBM Bladecenter Chassis, not the T -or H Chassis systems.

A common warning message you might recieve from an IBM Bladecenter is as follows:

"Demand exceeds a single power module. Throttling can occur in power domain 1."

The message is normal.

In a normal rudundant situation, all power needs are drawn from both PSU's, so you effectively have 2 x 2000 = 4000w for a single power domain during normal running. Its not a fail-over system, its drawns its power from both PSU's at the same time. So its kinda like 'load balencing'.

In a NON-redudant situation, so when you loose a single power domain, the bladecenter will only have 2000w left per power domain.

For 8 servers, its drawing more than 2000, as you saw, 2418 or therabouts.

With the power policy "Redundant with potential performance impact", the bladecenter will attempt to clock-down some of the blades servers until the powerconsumption is below 2000w, so it can keep running.

The clocked down servers will of course suffer the "performance impact".

In short: The Bladecenter you are using is not able to support all blades at full performance, IF you loose power redundancy.
Therefor, actually, these bladecenters can not be considdered "fully redundant" .
It may not suprise you that IBM, not its partners, do not like to easily admit to this limitation.

In the meantime, the warning remains, to remind you that this may happen when you loose redundancy.

There are 2 workarounds:
1. Redistribute your blade servers across both power domains evenly, so you dont use more than 2000 watt per power domain. If you place more servers this will be come unattainable though.

2. Make sure all 4 PSU's are connected to a redundant power source, so backup power (with generator). This more or less circumvents the entire problem.

I was approached by a contributer of the Wikimedia group, if they could use some of the pictures I had uploaded of Bladecenters, for the official Wikipedia article on them.

I of course said it was oke, and now 3 of my pictures have become part of the Wikimedia archive as offical resources under the GNU FDL licence.

http://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Image:Pile_of_IBM_HS20s.jpg

I was very very impressed with the way I was approached and this was handled.
They now seem to use ‘official’ standard emails for request of usage of pictures and other media, and the email exchange was very well and professionally handled.

Here is a copy paste of the original mail I recieved.

http://www.worldofwarcast.com/podcasts/WorldOfWarcastEpisode20.m4a

This is episode 20 of WorldofWarCast. 21st May. The beginning of the podcast struck me as particular relevant to the situation our current guild is in. As I said in a previous post, some people are more or less dropping out due to lack of progress and general frustration/boredom.

This mirrors Starmans reasons for leaving his guild, at least as far as I can tell. Personally, my own reasons for playing will not soon drive me to leave my current guild. Its the best guild I have been in, and I have become quite fiendly with many in the guild, and many that make up the "core group".

Like Starman, my main reason for playing is to enjoy the game to the fullest, to "see things", and experience the end-game. But I also take great enjoyment and fullfillment in achieving things together with others, more specificly, together with the people I have gotten to know and already experience so much with. '

Epics? Sure I wanna get Epics, and I would considder it unnatural for anyone not to want your phat loot. But its not a primary motivator for me, at least not most of the time. Sure, there have been evenings where the loot has been the thing that pulled me through the evening…   “I am gonna get the Fang of the Faceless..omgz0rs!!11”, but I am not gonna stop raiding MC ones my tier 1 is complete. Sure you might think thats easy to say now. Well I’ll post again when I have a complete tier 1 and let you know if I still feel the same. I am pretty sure I will though.

The process of working though learning a raid, and a boss, and then the sheer thrill of defeating a boss, after putting sometimes weeks of effort into it, more or less boils down to the most fullfilling and enjoyable experience I have yet had in gaming in general, online or off. The knowlege that you did this together, that you all worked on it, and that you will all reap the rewards.

This is my main reason for playing and staying in my guild. Sure, every guild has its bad periods. Every guild is frustrated by lack of progress, or internal politics, or arguments. All these things matter little to me, because in the end, we as a guild have achieved much, and have the potential to achieve so much more. In short, I still believe in my guild and the people in it. Even through our current troubles, that still holds true.

I urge anyone thinking about quiting your guild to think about this. To considder what they are playing the game for. To considder why they joined their guild in the first place. Is it the guild that makes you unhappy, or the game itself..  is the guilds lack of progress the problem, or is it the confines of that box you think within.

I’ve been with my current guild, Haven, for more than half a year now.
With them I have been given the oppertunity to enjoy the part of WoW that many many WoW players simply will never get to: The End Game.

And with End Game we of course mean Molton Core, Blackwing Lair, etc. (even though some people refer to the end-game as UBRS, Strat, etc… man, personally I dont even considder ZG end-game, though some of the bosses are on par with MC or BWL I must admit.)

Anyway, this weekend I have been promoted to guild-officer. The mean reason for this really is that I want to get involved more in guild-organisational matter, and am known for my enthousiasm and long-running commitment to the guild. I have also been made classleader for the rogues, and will become a moderator on the forum.

That last part is more to do with the fact that I have some ideas about how to clean up our current tactics forum, which is a mess to be honest.

I am also thrilled that the guild leadership have finally embraced our Wiki, which had been around for a while, but never had that much popular support. With my talking to the guild leaders about content-management of guild-info, I got them exited in the Wiki, and one of our guys in particular, took to it like a fish to water once he understood the power of it. That was a great thing to see.

So I got a lot of forum-cleaning to do, and moving the content of many stickied threads over to the Wiki.

Not much else to do this week, as the guild has taken a weeks break from raiding.

The reason for this, is that we have suddenly start to suck very very badly in instances we previously had on farm status, and usually wouldn’t even break a sweat over. In the past few weeks though, it seems that many people have gotten bored and are dropping the ball, resulting in wiping constantly in ZG, MC and Onyxia.

One of the reasons this might be happening, is because we are still desperatly trying to get Veal down, the second voss in BWL. Our lack of progress causes a large amount of discouragement amunsgt some people, and indeed, you see that some people are leaving the guild, temporarily or not, to persue other RL interest, or to get into PVP for a while.

Now Haven has been in trouble more than once before, but I think the past weeks have seen us closer to a /gdisband than ever before. I really really hope the guild picks up again to the level it was at. This break will help relax people a bit I am sure.. some of us have formed a PvP group of which I am sometimes a part, and its a chance for all of us to stock up on funds for new veal tries in the future.  To give you an idea: my average Veal try costs me about 30–40 gold on potions and repair.

Got some new DVDs. Yes I know the DOOM film sucked. I bought it out of -Principle-, much like I also have a copy of The Deathrace 2000, hahahah!! (hey come on it starred David Carridine!)

I like good CGI and liked the first Final Fantasy movie. I never played the games, so if I dont like or get the movie,  Emma can have it.

Of course with the new movie of Aeon Flux out, they released the original series, and I always loved that series. Now they should bring out THE MAXX too, I will snatch it right up :D    –  hey wait they already did!

That stuff arrived yesterday.

The paper note says: "I fucking packed this shit! - Dawei"

Dawei is Dave, the Chinese guy who had the main part in Episode 9 “The Story of Dave”, and apparently left to return to China!
Looks like he is still around in fact

The writing on the bandana says: "hey Rob, thx 4 teh gr8 convos! +T3h.pwn3r3r+"

This in reference to the evening they came to the flat and the 4 of us talked to 3am about all kinds of cool stuff.

The new hoody and bandana makes me look badass:

GameSyndicate has opened a second venue in Scheveningen, following in the footsteps of their first location in Rotterdam.

Me and Emma went to have a look on the opening day, today, on which a general callout had been given to gamers to attend. For free of course.\

Some local press and people in suits who obviously didn’t know what gaming was all about, but where somehow invested in the opening. It was rather funny to see people explaining to the suits and the reporters what they where seeing on the screens.

Most people in the place settled in for a LAN game of CS:S (Counterstrike Source), and I noticed rather quickly that my pwnage skills in CS have long since dissapated.

The venue is very well decked out and they have an in-store bar and small diner, so you can get hot snacks. A little stage has room for life music or tournament-style events, and there are wide screen displays all over the place that can view any of the PC’s.

For more info, check out the website: http://www.gamesyndicate.nl/
Check out the games list too.

I love these places, I may come here often, even tough its 2.50 euros an hour (ouch!). Its all about the atmosphere you know, and being amungst your own kind.

Totally unannounced Kyle and Jeremy of Pure Pwnage appeared at the parental home of Ernst (Skrie), my lodger, and coincidentally he was there at the time.

Of course Jeremy made some nice money on the ebay auction of his hair, so that might explain the add-hoc nature of their trip

So when I phoned Ernst for something unrelated, I was rather speechless when he passed the phone to what appeared to be Jeremy. I of course immediatly suspected a joke, but as he tried to coerce a repsponse from me, I started to realize it was real.

A few hours later Skrie brought Kyle and Jeremy round to the flat, Kyle was filming, but its probably not usefull footage.

Now.. as happy as I was to see them, their timing couldn’t have been worse, as my flat is being renovated, and we dont even have a toilet right now.

We managed though, and talked until the 3am in the morning, with a short interlude to the neighbour. Kyle was jetlagged and obviously tired, but Jeremy couldn’t stop talking, and the 4 of us touched on many subjects from Internet community building, to the Show itself, to American Politics and other subjects.

This picture is the only one I took, and yes, its crap. With my hand I am trying to block out Kyles head, as his identity is of course a closely guarded secret.  Jut as I was taking the picture, Jeremy bent down, hence the wierdness of this picture.  You can, however, see how happy Skrie is in their presence.

I didnt take any other pictures, as I didnt want to impose in that ‘fanboi’ way.

They stayed at Skrie’s last night, and I dont know what they did today, though Jeremy mentioned they wanted to shoot some material around well-recognizable Dutch sites, obviously for a future Pure Pwnage Episode. I bet Skrie will be making an appearance!

All in all it was a great night. They are both totally cool guys, and both me and Skrie are still kinda amazed they actually travelled over here. Really great to finally meet them.

What a stressfull Sunday it has been.

It started with me not being able to feed the neighbours cats while she is away, because I had lost the key to her appartment.

Yesterday I cleared up much of the house, so I was pretty sure the key was gone. Eventually, I found it, but not before I had phoned just about everyone, including the police, to see what my options where (breaking and entering, more or less).

Mathijs, brother of Ernst, helped us clearing out the kitchen for the builders. This means most of the contents of the kitchen is now in the living room. We also have tried to partly dissasemble the stove, but it looks like I am going to have to get a new unit or something.

next week Ernst has taken off to accomadate the builders, after that its my turn. Its gonna be interesting without a toilet, shower, washing machine and hot water, but they say there are temp empty apartments to use. In my usual style, I have left it far too late to enquire about these things, so we wil have to see what happens next week. For now it looks like its microwaved meals for us.

Another point of concern is the storage in the cellar. Huge sewage pipes run thought that, and these will have to be replaced also. During that time the doors are unlocked for the workmen. They have temporary storage set up in the form of a big container outside, but again, I have not talked to them about this yet.

Oke.. continuing on my current obsession with gothic-metal music.

Been listening to the Steam of Passion album more and more, and its really starting to grow on me.

I have been digging a little deeper into what this band is all about.
Now it turns out that Stream of Passion is project number X for Arjen Lucassen. This guy seems to be a serial musical entrepeneur and seemingly a rather big deal in the Dutch gothic-metal scene. His is mostly known for his Ayreon Rock Opera albums which feature a dazzling array of guest artists and performers. He seems to occasionally branch off to do more specific musical endeavors, such as, in this case, creaing a band and a musical style, and an album,  around in this case Marcela Bovio, the lead singer of ‘Stream of Passion’, but who’s main band appears to be Elfonia, a Mexican goth/metal/progressive group, which in turn seems to have grown out of a band called Hydra.

Few days ago, the Stream of Passion website was addorned with a forum, and I noticed something interesting happened. Both Elfonia and the Ayreon main site already have a large groupy community posting on the site forums, with band members themselves regurlarly posting alongside the fans. These two groups now seem to have merged on this new Stream of Passion forum, which is rather interesting to see. Marcela herself seems to be almost an admin on the forum, which just struck me as really funny and cool. I wonder if that personal touch is gonna stay long though, considdering they are getting some major meansteam airtime with this album. Where are the hoards of silly fan-kiddies that are bound to invade the forum? Am I one of them? :D

Having really gotten into the album now, I have no choice but to buy it. And extra motivational factor is that though stuff like the message board, you get so close to the actual artists, that you wanna be able to post their without a guilty concience. I know the band members will read my post, and I feel I owe it to them to give them the respect they deserve by buying the album. But being just a post away from directly communicating with those very people really helps drive that point home.

Of course the best place to buy the album in this case, is from Arjens online store itself. They will make the most return from any purchase via that site, cause its basicly them themselves.. or Arjen at least. Isn’t the internet great! This is the kind of relationship I would want with a band, this has nothing to do with the mainstream commercialism of the major record labels and their pre-produces plastic boy-bands.. this is the real deal, dealing with the people themselves.

More gotic/metal for me.

Stream of Passion. Their debut album is Embrace the Storm, which is also the first single off the album, which is how I was introduced to them… and on TMF, of all places!!

http://www.streamofpassion.com/

Actually it makes sense, cause the band is Dutch. The female lead vocal is a Spanish gal though, Marcela Bovio, and some of the lyrics reflect that, which made me a little suprised when I read just now they are Dutch. The main guy behind the music is Arjen Anthony Lucassen, who apparently has more material out there under the name Ayreon.

It was wierd, as some of you know I was looking for more Goth/Metal/Hard Rock type music to play during World of Warcraft, but appart from Evancence, Within Temptation and Nightwish, I still havent been able to find anything quite to my liking. But then I downloaded years worth of music so I cant sift thought it all of course.  Anyway, I like Gothic/Rock with female vocalists, I cant stand any of the scandinavian style lead male grunting stuff…   anyhow, running into Stream of Passion so soon after, and then on TMF, kinda struck me as ironic.

Oh speaking of Evanescance, I was kinda totally suprised to see them very active online. Strolling though some fan sites I saw very little mention of their online activites, if any.. certainly their site makes no mention of the fact that Amy and co are apparently quite frequenst posters on http://www.evboard.com.  of course that must be like “well duh” for Ev fans, but I have only been a fan for the last 3 weeks of course.. :D  Amy Lee posted yesterday and reports that the new album should be out by August. Looking forward too it.

About time I stopped freeloading on Ev and bought their albums. Also wanna pickup the Paris live DVD.
Gonna listen to Stream of Passion a bit more before I make a purchase decision on that one, music needs to grow on me before I will even considder buying it. I just made up that rule by the way, I have hardly ever bought any music, but then I hardly listen to music. That seems to have changed recently though with Ev.

Can you believe that? I did a music-related post. Side of me no one knows about

And goddamnit.. its 12.36 again, and I wanted to have an early night. (I always say that)

Oh and in other news. That exchange course I am in every other monday. Well it looks like the Exam will be a breeze, and I already know most of the material already.. wow, will I actually me MCSA then soon? lol

This stuff really pisses me off:

I havent blogged for a while.

The reason for this, is because of www.geekswithblogs.net/jemimus <— my main blog site.

The stuff I have wanted to post about recently, mostly personal things, just hasn’t fitted in that page, and I share the sites owners, Jeff and John, wish to make it a really great resource for the IT community. Personal stuff is a bit awkward there, it detracts from the overall content.

Therefore I have decided to no longer post personal items there, but to leave that blog to be my outlet for purely technical things. And my technical posts there should pick up again in time.

I will leave my other blogs, the livejournal one, my MSN Space, etc, as my alternative, more personal blogs. I may or may not post technical content on them, dont know yet.
The content on all the other blogs are all identical by the way, I post to them all at the same time using Blogjets really great group-posting feature.

Powered by BlogJet

And now to what I have been doing lately. First the technical stuff, then other stuff.

<technical>

At work I have been bussy with a really massive migration. I am writing the overall plan, or more, an index into all the stuff that needs doing. We are basicly migrating a child-domain to another child-domain in a massive target forest, really a global affair. I have found myself on conference calls with people all over europe, and frequently have to liason with the network guys in the UK.  Really, I have never worked on an enviroment so huge, but I feel completely at home and at ease. I just know this stuff so well.

By the way, I am also trying out MSN Messenger 8 beta and IE7 beta2 ..   both are cool. Now I cant decide between Firefox and IE.. both have more or less the same cool features.

I stopped using Google reader for my rss, cause they never ever update it. Using Newsgator online for now, until something better comes along. You think Ask made Bloglines actually usable yet?

</technical>

The company I work for directly has stuck me in a course, as you may know, and that has been, on the whole, a good experience.  I am glad to relate that the Microsoft courseware for Exchange 2003 is pretty good, and the ‘soft-skills’ course I have been having along side this, mostly about communication and the like, has been very very good too.  Its being given by Monique Kerssens, who is, I gather, considdered somewhat of a nationally known Guru when it comes to communication, presentation and interpersonal realationship techniques. I know firsthand she is very very good. She is also one of the few people who are certified to administer the MCT exam in the Netherlands, apparently.

As for my personal life, it has mostly centered around World of Warcraft (WoW) My guild is very very serious about tackling the end-game content, and so am I. Most nights I find myself in a 40–man raid killing some of the hardest bosses the game has to offer. And the rewards have been numerous. My current outfit can be found here, but needless to say, its got a lot of purple, and keeps getting better every week. We have Onyxia on farm status, and Ragnaros now falls weekly aswell. Black Wing Lair FTW!  Oh yes, and our server also had the gates of Ahn’Quiraj opened.

Do I have a social life left? No. But then, I didn’t before WoW anyway.

Chuck Norris pwns you all by the way.

In other news, I recently went to Karin’s Birthday party (Karin is doing a sketch a day on her blog now, btw), which was great. Pictures here. She has asked for some Ipod nano accesories, and while I was shopping, I suddenly remembered this, and dived into Dixons and bought some gift cards.  I regretted this shortly thereafter when I realised that these gift cards can only be spent at Dixons, and while Dixons has a fair amount of Ipod stuff, they dont have as much as other shops, like the MediaMarkt. Couldn’t change them though.. oh well.. its the thought that counts right? I think susan is cute, btw. Oh yes, and Chafik still owes me.

Still listen to a lot of podcasts. my OPML can be found here
Recently been trying to find more Warcraft related podcasts, but Taverncast and WorldofWarcast seem to be the best ones out there. I have posted about Taverncast before.. they are just excellent at this stuff.

Current music habbit: Evanescence.  Dont know why, but all of a sudden I just noticed their music and .. uhh.. well its aweseome. Cant wait for the new album. Favorite songs: Missing, My Last Breath, Imaginary, Breathe no More, Helo.

In other news: Episode 10 of Pure Pwnage came out yesterday. Get the torrent here. This time there was no big pre-screening unfortunatly, perhaps next time. Word has it there are still only a handfull, including myself, that know Jeremy and Kyles true identity

Oke..  that is enough of an update for now.
