Finally I've switched from lilo to grub, and not a day to late: those kernel patches just keep rolling in. Currently I'm up to speed with a 2.6.16.10 kernel with all the drivers on the trusty old linux box both hunky and dory. Upgraded hardware would be nice, but it would take me quite some time to get to know it that well to configure it with my eyes closed and two fingers up my nose. Currently I'm just happy with replacing the 0.7GHz Pentium III with a 1GHz one. And I think I will stick with that for a while because Dell doesn't seem to sell Linux based desktop systems in Europe...
