Conspicuous Consumption n.

The acquisition and display of expensive items to attract attention to ones wealth or to suggest that one is wealthy.

Phenomenology n.

A philosophy or method of inquiry based on the premise that reality consists of objects and events as they are perceived or understood in human consciousness and not of anything independent of human consciousness.

Lost in the noise adj.

This term is from signal processing, where signals of very small amplitude cannot be separated from low-intensity noise in the system.

Meme n.

A unit of cultural information, such as a cultural practice or idea, that is transmitted verbally or by repeated action from one mind to another.
