 2005 Edition

“The Tuner“

Well.. My first official movie at the festival was quite an experience. A Russian film about a weird couple trying to manipulate a couple weird old ladies. The plot is not why I thought the movie was an experience: it was in beautiful black and white with excellent photography, playing with basic light and shadows, excellent! The leading lady, Renata Litvinova, is a visual treat and her excentric character can sometimes make you grin insanely. The male lead, George Delijev, surely must've had classical theatre training and must've finished on top of his class for Mimicry. The really annoying thing was the volume of the sound that really could deafen the audience at times.
So? My conclusion: an interesting technical film with a tolerable plot and good enough acting.
