#23 Ding Ren

ACF organised a workshop next autumn that is meant for Dutch and International advanced or (semi) professional photographers and for writers/bloggers who like to discuss contemporary photography from an International perspective.

Focus will be on critically looking at you work and the work of other photographers from around the world. Through class discussions, presentations, critiques and writing assignments, you will begin to develop and fine tune your own artistic dialogue and critical discourse. Artist statements and portfolio development will also be discussed.

One of the lessons will take place on a Saturday with a visit to an exhibition. During the first lesson the exact date will be decided together.

Through assignments and comparing each others photographic vision you will learn to recognise your own assumptions and ideas about the medium in relation to a wider International perspective.

Ding Ren is an American artist who is temporarily based in Amsterdam. More information about her work can be found on her website.

#21 Marika Asatiani

At ACF we are showing an installation by Marika Asatiani from Tiblisi (Georgia) who has been a resident at the Rijksakademie from 2009/2010 . Opening tomorrow at 17 hrs. Marika's installation “ Spot the difference” is about spatial placement in time and the role of the viewer being present. A very intriguing project that is best to be experienced at the specific site. For this reason I chose another (registration of a) work for this weblog, this will not be on display in the gallery but was made during a residence programm in Leipzig in 2008.

I like it very much and have found myself wondering a lot these days wether we should add more green into our space by making a grassfield or a greenwall in the future. More photosynthesis then photography for sure. As my two greatest passions at the moment; Nature and Art are getting more and more connected... We'll see. Might ask Marika for advice.

#20 Bert de Jong

I've known Bert de Jong for some time now. He's one of these succesfull autodidact photographers who I've been happy to meet at ACF. I admire the way of the solitary photographers, who in these rough times in this profession, are following their passion and work hard to create a position for themselves. Bert has been invited to several artschools to start an education there, but he rejects those opportunities. And frankly, would he really need it? I doubt it. Besides, he doesn't have time to commit to a fulltime education; too busy making a living with his photography ... So, keep an eye on this one!

Work of Paulien Barbas will be shown in an international exhibition at Aeroplastics Contemporary, Brussels. “ Building up and tearing down, construction and deconstruction are the major keywords within the chaotic variety of artistic strategies in the context of Everybody is possible but nothing is real.“

Pauliens photograph above has been a part of our “ Beyond Photography“ exhibition of last october.

This work by Bert Teunissen was published on his facebookpage. At this moment he has an exhibition at Huis Marseille untill June 5: Domestic Landscapes travellogs. He shot black-and-white photographs of the changing landscape and encounters on the street from the window of his car.
